Help Your Statin Drug Do Its Job

Believe it or else, if you take your statin drug at night it will do a better job of reducing your cholesterol. That’s because the liver produces cholesterol at night. I guess your body knows that cholesterol is bad, LDL that is, so it doesn’t want you to know what its doing to you. With all the people out there in the world who are out to get me, now I find my own body is trying to kill me. There’s no justice.

On a lighter note, wait there is no lighter note. Its all bad. The higher your LDL (Bad) Cholesterol number, the greater your risk of developing heart disease. That’s because too much LDL (Bad) Cholesterol in your bloodstream can build up in your arteries increasing your risk of heart disease. Now think about this. If evolution theory were true, don’t you think that we would have done some evolving out of LDL? I mean before I would worry about standing upright, I’d have fixed it so I would live longer so I could enjoy standing upright. Well that’s just my observation but seeing that its my blog I can say stuff like that.

By the way with LDL, less than 100 Optimal 130–159 borderline high, statin drug time,  and 190 and above is very high. You need a complete lifestyle makeover. I think you can get that done if you stand around Home Depot. No wait that’s a back yard makeover.  Of course that would not be a bad idea, a new grill. Perhaps you would grill more veggies. No, your right that’s a pipe dream.

Now total  Cholesterol should be under 200. above 200 up to 239 is borderline, and I don’t mean the Mexican/American border. If total is 240 or above you will be checking into your favorite neighborhood health clinic.

Well that’s all for now. Eat your broccoli along with the most foul vegetable imaginable, Brussel sprouts. I shutter to mention the word, Brussel Sprouts. Take your statin drug as proscribed by your health care professional and look for your next installment of fascinating and timely material as told to you by…..

Peptic Ulcers And How To Cure The Little Sucker’s

Well here you are. Along with all your other “issues” you’re up in the middle of the night with a gnawing stomach pain. You’re not really hunger but you eat a bite and take an antacid pill and it seams to do the trick. At least now you can get back to sleep.

Still you should talk to your doctor. I talk to the dude for all aches, pains and “issues” regardless. After all, that’s what he gets paid for, isn’t it? Keeping you well is his function in life, is it not? ‘Cause the above symptoms could be an ulcer. Not long ago ulcers were considered a chronic condition that you had to live with, like a bad marriage.  Today, unlike a bad marriage which can be cured faster then a Kardashian attending a basketball game, it may take a couple of weeks to cure a peptic ulcer.  Also you may have to work with your doctor to institute a plan for avoiding another. I have no idea who can help you avoid another bad marriage. It appears we are doomed to repeat those.

We used to think peptic ulcers were caused by lifestyle, like stress and spicy foods but recently we have discovered a major cause is the H. pylori bacteria which eats away at the acid-tolerant lining of the inner stomach. Acid is allowed to get through to more sensitive under lining and pow!, pain and ulcer development. Another leading cause is antacids and anti-inflammatory drugs, Celebrex, Advil, Motrin and others. The symptoms that occur with a pectic ulcer are stupid.  The pain lasts for a few minutes but can last several hours, it flares up at night but can occur during lunch, its predominant when your stomach is empty so eating helps, however sometimes its brought on by eating.  Losing weight can be a symptom but so can gaining weight, geez what is a body to do.

See your doctor. If you have pain or you’re controlling heartburn with medication for more than a few days in a row, something is probable wrong. The surest way to identify if you have an ulcer or not is an upper endoscopy. I get an endoscopy every 2 years. I have a sadist for a doctor. He enjoys shooting air down my throat and shoving the camera down into my gut looking for polyps to pluck out. But I’m thankful he does. He saved my life 5 years ago when, unbeknown to me, I had some massive polyps that erupted and I lost a barrel of blood. The doctor, through his skill,  was able to tie off the offending bleeders without invasive surgery through my gullet. Of course, he’s the same doctor that 2 years ago he gave me an endoscope and a colonoscopy at the same time. Take my word for it, don’t ever let anybody do that to you. You will have gas and pain that you believe will never stop. However, I digress, who talks like that, to continue, with appropriate treatment, peptic ulcers usually heal in a few weeks. You can help the healing along by cutting out those foods and lifestyle choices that aggravate the condition that causes ulcers. Stop smoking, cut down on alcohol and try to cut down on stress.  All the things that make life worth living, Oh well.  No matter how hard it seems, you have to try. Your life my depend on it.
